Atlantbh Internship: Countless Reasons Why

Embarking on your first job journey can be a mix of excitement and nerves. Transitioning from the University to the professional world can be a shaping moment in your future career. We asked five of our ex-interns, now Atlanters, what lessons they took from Internship to the real (work) world.  Working on a (real) project Internship projects at Atlantbh are based on the projects our engineers work on daily - without the added stress of meeting client deadlines. That makes working with other interns fun and dynamic, but also lets you in on how it is to work in a team. Amar was our Product Manager intern, and he says this, together with mentorship, were the most helpful experiences for starting his career. His mentor taught him the whens, hows and whys in the decision-making during the development of the new feature. After every month of the Atlantbh Internship, together with other Interns, he had a feedback session, where he got advice on what to improve in the next month.  Being a part of a productive team Dženeta found her Atlantbh internship valuable because she learned how to work effectively in a team. The difference between her studies and the Internship is that interns at Atlantbh collaborate on their projects. Each team member has a specific role in building complex applications. This experience taught her the importance of teamwork and working in a productive, Scrum-based environment. Never forget the edge case Before she became a Junior Software Engineer at Atlantbh, Nađa’s biggest lesson as an intern was that having functional code is not enough. Always think about how to make it as simple as possible, format it, and never forget the edge cases. She worked hard to implement these steps in her work process. Her biggest help was her mentor - who showed her how to achieve these goals. Nađa says that her University projects would have been much easier if she knew more about GitHub branches then.  What is important (and what is not) Ferid faced a challenge as a Data Analytics Intern: separating important data from unimportant data after conducting analyses. Learning to view data results professionally was an eye-opener for him. This skill continues to benefit him as he works as a Data Analyst today. That one thing that stands out During the Internship, you'll gain knowledge and experience in various areas. However, there's often one skill that stands out because you use it every day when you start your career. For Jasmina, a UI/UX designer, that standout skill was her research on designing tables. Her knowledge of design practices and how to plan and create concepts in the design system remains crucial in her real projects at Atlantbh today. Adis Halilović is a DevOps engineer at Atlantbh, but behind the kickstarting of his career lies an exciting story. When he applied for the Atlantbh Internship, he didn't know what the DevOps position entailed. Lejla from our Talent team says that it is often the case that young people who apply for an internship are not sure what exactly they want to do. This is why the Talent team, as well as the engineers involved in the selection process, try to recognize each individual's potential and affinities and help them in that decision. Adis described the DevOps position as a way of life. He says that it is the culture and way of developing the application so that all the steps of developing the application go smoothly. The goal of DevOps culture is the unification of all those participating in that development cycle, so that the final product is as efficient as possible. All these processes are a part of the development cycle, for which the DevOps engineer is directly responsible. His DevOps story came spontaneously. He started using Linux in high school and started learning various programming languages. Adis tried his hand at other IT positions, but he didn't quite find himself in any of them. After that, he devoted himself to Linux, especially its configuration. He says he used to waste a lot of time writing automation scripts, which paid off in the long run. Adis decided to apply for the Atlantbh internship, and what is very interesting is that DevOps was his second choice. At that moment, Adis did not know what a DevOps position was, but the word Linux caught his attention. Although it was not his first choice, the Atlantbh team recognized that his skills and tendencies fit the role. "When I got to the technical interview, I talked about Linux for over an hour with Atlantbh Lead DevOps. It was a great feeling because even though there were questions I didn't know the answer to, I got the chance to talk to someone about Linux on a higher level," says Adis. After he got accepted to the Atlantbh internship, Adis learned a lot of skills needed for this job, which helped him get a job as a DevOps engineer at Atlantbh. "I must also mention that recently my internship mentor told me that as soon as he saw my CV and GitHub, he immediately knew what I wanted to do, only I didn't know it existed. I want my story to motivate future Atlantbh Interns to sign up for a new cycle of practice and try this. Demo presentations and feedback  Besides gaining an opportunity to expand your knowledge and obtain valuable tech skills, as an ABH intern, you get a chance to improve your public speaking, presentation, and soft skills as well. You present your work from the previous month at the end of every month. While preparing for the demo, your mentor provides additional support and tips regarding the presentation itself. We really want you to succeed! So, after presenting, your mentor, Internship coordinator and our engineers give you valuable feedback on your progress. This helps you navigate the next chapter of your internship journey.  Flexibility  ABH Internship is implemented in such a way that allows interns the flexibility of organizing their own time and coordinating their other responsibilities with the internship itself. It is implemented within a hybrid working model which means you have the freedom to choose whether you’d like to do your work in the office or remotely (or both), depending on your location and personal preferences.
